Burns Memorial MissionsBurns Church has heard and answered Christ’s call to missions. We have taken this call very seriously and believe God has blessed us and is continuing to bless us as we reach out to those in need. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are committed to local, national and international missions that will reach out to poor and oppressed people everywhere. We offer opportunities for all people to be involved in missions such as by participating in a mission project or going on a mission trip, by praying for and encouraging those who participate or go, and by contributing financially to a mission. Burns has been active in foreign missions to: More locally, we have been to the Gulf Coast in June of 2006 and in February of 2007 to help with the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. We have another trip planned for that area in the August 2008. Burns has led several Augusta District Mission trips to Haiti and to the Gulf Coast, enabling some of the smaller churches in our district to participate in national and international missions as part of a district-wide team. At home, our Food Pantry is open at our church each Tuesday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. All those in the community who need assistance with food and clothing are welcome. We work with Augusta Urban Ministries to help meet the needs of people in our City. We participate in their Christmas projects by providing gifts for needy children and sugar for food boxes for needy families. Our Youth are also actively involved in missions in a variety of ways. In July 2007, six youth and their chaperones participated in the Metro Atlanta Project (M.A.P.) where they joined with hundreds of other youth in re-roofing the homes of people who could not afford to pay for this work to be done. Twelve youth are scheduled to return to M.A.P. in July 2008. Organizations within the church that focus on missions include: We also give to designated offerings throughout the year to benefit various mission projects. Other projects include The White Gift Sunday and food drive for Thanksgiving baskets. Burns’ seeks to respond to our call to mission by answering, “Here am I, Lord, send me.”
