Burns Memorial Fellowship

In all we do at Burns Memorial UMC, we strive to nurture each other and to provide for fellowship opportunities. Aside from our regular small groups such as Sunday School classes, women's missions circles, and United Methodist Men, we have special times for the church to come together for Christian fellowship.

Family Night Suppers : Every third Wednesday from September to May, we meet together in the Family Life Center at 6:00 pm to share a meal. Classes work on a rotating basis for food preparation and service. Cost of meals is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under eat for free. Following mealtime, there's always a fun activity or interesting program. Recent favorites have been a cake auction and a pie auction with proceeds going to missions. Make plans to attend. This would be a great way to get to meet new friends.

Happy Club: Every third Thursday at 11:30 am, from September to May (with the exception of December), senior citizens from the church and community meet together in the Family Life Center to share lunch. Everyone brings a covered dish and $1.00. The dollar covers the cost of fried chicken which is always provided. Lunch is followed by an enjoyable and informative program. Plan to attend.

Homecoming: Every October we observe homecoming on a Sunday morning. We always have a special guest speaker bringing the morning message. The 11:00 am worship service is followed by a covered dish lunch in the Family Life Center. Burns Memorial UMC has some of the best cooks around, and the tables are filled with bowls and platters of delicious food. Present and past members as well as visitors enjoy the food and the time to visit with each other in this friendly environment.

Caregivers: In addition to these opportunities to foster fellowship in a Christian environment, we also care for those who are no longer able to attend services and activities at the church because of illness or infirmities. Six teams of four or more members serve on a rotating basis to visit, call, and send cards to these loved ones so they can stay informed and up-to-date with the rest of the congregation.

Grief Group: On an as-needed basis, a fourteen week Grief Share and Recovery Group is provided for those who have experienced the death of a loved one. Those who grieve are given a safe and confidential place to work through their grief, and they also receive tools to aid them in their journey through grief. Since the group runs on an as-needed basis, please phone the church office at 706-798-1454 to check on the current status of the group.

Van Ministry: In order to serve those without transportation, we have a van ministry which provides transportation to Sunday School and church on Sunday mornings. Please phone the church office at 706-798-1454 or phone our van ministry director, Geoff Richards at 706-798-4279 to arrange for pick-up.

Acts 2:42 tells us that those who became a part of the early church “. . . .joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lord's supper and prayer.” (NLT). Please join us as we continue the practice of fellowship of the early church.
